The Norm is a non-smoking, pet friendly apartment community featuring monitored fire alarms and sprinklers and optional security monitoring systems for each unit. With only 12 apartments in the building, each with an individual outside entry, residents enjoy an intimate living experience. Living areas feature hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings, ceiling fans, large skylights with remote-controlled blackout blinds, and bathrooms that are beautifully tiled. Kitchens boast granite slab countertops and stainless steel appliances. Each unit has its own washer and dryer as well as individual climate controls.

Rental Procedure
What is Required to Apply:
- Each member of the household over age 18 must submit a completed application.
- Identification sufficient to verify the applicant’s identity, name, and date of birth, pursuant to The Norm’s Rental Criteria for Residency, must be provided.
- $60 Screening Fee for each adult applicant must be paid. The Norm accepts Screening Fees only in cash, certified check or money order.
- Copies of the applicant’s two most recent pay stubs or other acceptable proof of income must be provided.
- No sight-unseen rentals. At least one adult applicant must view the interior of the unit in person.
The Application Process:
- Arrange an appointment to view the available unit by contacting Management at management@thenormpdx.com. Appointments are scheduled between 10 am and 3 pm. Please bring your Identification and Screening Fee to your scheduled appointment. You will be given an emailed receipt for your payment of the Screening Fee at this time.
- Complete the application online. Each adult applicant must submit their own application. Per anti-discrimination laws, married couples must be screened separately.
- Provide the applicant’s proof of income to The Norm. This can either be uploaded as an attachment when submitting an application, or PDFs can be emailed to Management.
- Placement in an application queue is ordered by the timing of The Norm’s receipt of valid applications. An application is “valid” and receives a place in the queue when the five requirements to apply have been met and all applications from a household are capable of being sent forward to our screening company simultaneously.
- Applications are first come, first served. The Norm will accept and process only one application (or one group of applications from co-applicants) at a time for a particular rental unit. As soon as an application is sent forward to our screening company, the Screening Fee becomes NON-REFUNDABLE. It typically takes two to four business days to complete the screening process.
- Within 48 hours of application approval, applicants will be required to either: (a) sign a rental agreement package, pay the required move-in costs, and take possession of the unit; or (b) sign an execution agreement for a previously agreed-upon move-in date and pay the required execution deposit. Execution deposits will be applied toward the total move-in costs but shall be forfeited to the Owner as liquidated damages if the applicant fails to sign a rental agreement package and pay the full move-in balance on the Rental Agreement start date.
Renters Insurance Requirement:
All residents must provide proof of insurance with a minimum of $100,000 liability to cover any damage or injury to persons or property.

Pet Policy
Because The Norm management understands the important role that animals play in many of our resident’s lives, we are happy to allow pets in our apartments subject to the policies detailed below. Qualified service animals in compliance with Fair Housing requirements are always welcome.Pet Types Allowed:

Cats
- A maximum of two (2) cats is permitted in one-bedroom units
- A maximum of one (1) cat is permitted in studio units
- Adult weight must not exceed 25 pounds

Dogs
- A maximum of one (1) dog is permitted in one-bedroom units
- No dogs are permitted in studio units
- Age must be at least one (1) year old (no puppies permitted)
- Adult weight must not exceed 60 pounds

- Fish Tanks
- Restricted Breed Dogs that are not permitted due to insurance limitations on liability include the following breeds: Pit Bulls, Staffordshire Terriers, Doberman Pinschers, Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Mastiffs, Boxers, Chows, Great Danes, Presa Canerios, Akitas, Alaskan Malamutes, Siberian Huskies, Saint Bernards, Basenjis, Gull Dongs, Boerboels, Dogo Argentinos, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Bull Terriers, American Bandogges, Tosa Inus, Wolf-hybrids or any mixed breeds containing any portion or characteristic of these breeds.
Other Information:
- A maximum of two (2) pets total are permitted in one-bedroom units. A maximum of one (1) pet is permitted in studio units.
- Pets shall not be permitted by Resident to roam freely outside of Resident’s unit. Dogs should be kept on a leash and cats should be kept in a crate when in common areas.
- Pets shall not be kept, bred, or used for any commercial purpose.
- A receptacle must be placed underneath the pet’s water dish to prevent damage to the wood flooring in the unit.
- Cat litter must be regularly swept up by Resident to prevent damage to the wood flooring in the unit.
- If cat(s) are not declawed, scratching posts must be available to prevent damage to walls, cabinets, and carpeting.
Process to Add a Pet to Your Unit:

BEFORE the pet will be permitted to reside in the unit:
- A Pet Agreement must be completed, signed by the resident(s), and submitted along with a picture of the pet.
- All cats and dogs must be spayed or neutered by six (6) months of age, and Resident must provide written documentation confirming this status.
- Resident must provide The Norm, LLC with written documentation showing that their current Renter’s Insurance policy covers damage or injury caused by Resident’s pet.
- BEGINNING on the date that the pet resides in the unit, Monthly Pet Rent of $50 is required and must be added to the Monthly Rent check paid by Resident to The Norm each month thereafter.
- WITHIN ONE (1) MONTH of the pet residing in the unit, Resident must provide written documentation confirming current rabies vaccinations. Oregon law requires all dogs to be vaccinated against rabies as early as three months of age. Multnomah County requires all cats to be vaccinated against rabies.
